About Us

Alan Lopez, PE, began as a structural CAD draftsman for 5 years, working on projects like the fast-track Fiesta Texas theme park. He then earned a BS in Civil Engineering from UT Austin (1997), resulting in 30+ years of field and engineering experience. As a structural design engineer, he worked on diverse structures—schools, medical facilities, residential, commercial, retail, industrial, offices, and sports venues—up to $65M in value.

In 2006, he joined the City of San Antonio, managing high-profile capital improvement, Public Works, and airport projects, including Market Street realignment for Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center expansion and the 1,300-ft Runway 3/21 & Taxiway Q extension. In 2015, as Senior Construction Manager at AECOM, he oversaw construction for the $550M Bexar County Flood Control Program.

In 2018, Alan founded AJL Engineering as a solo venture. After steady growth, he now employs his three sons—Nicolas Lopez, PE, Nathan Lopez, and Nolan Lopez—building a genuine family business dedicated to designing, managing, and supporting local projects in the greater San Antonio area.
